The senior management of MD comprises of 2 directors who are closely working with the day to day operations of the company.
The overall direction and leadership for Micro Drip will come from Dr. Sono Khangarani, TRDP’s CEO and founding member (since 1998). A native of the Thar region and a veterinarian by training, Dr. Sono brings 25 years of experience in academia, the corporate sector (agri-business) and rural development. Under his leadership, TRDP has grown to become the 3rd largest of Pakistan’s rural support programs, with a range of market based and grant based services to TRDP’s network communities. Dr. Sono’s vision for creating Micro Drip as a commercial venture follows from the objective to attain institutional financial sustainability and leveraging the power of affordable and appropriate market based solutions to tackle poverty. He will direct Micro Drip’s planning and operations, while building new business development opportunities through partnerships with other organizations.

Dr. Sono’s knowledge and experience of Bottom of Pyramid (BOP) markets will be complemented by Zulfiqar Haji, an agri-business entrepreneur who has co-led the structuring and planning of the Micro Drip business since joining the team earlier this year. Zulfiqar Haji’s own company, Universal Agro-Chemicals (UAC), is an agri-nutrients and pesticides manufacturer, supplying to multinationals, sugar-mills and larger farmers in Sindh. Haji however has a strong passion for promoting new agricultural technologies, especially those with positive Returns on Investment (ROI) and help to reduce poverty. One of his side ventures is a free agri-consultancy centre for poor farmers in one of Karachi's agri-inputs markets. He shares Dr. Sono’s vision of addressing a critical need of low-income farmers through a commercial approach.

Zulfiqar Haji will provide strategic guidance and direction on Micro Drip operations while continuing to manage Universal Agro Chemicals (UAC). He will play the lead role in developing markets outside the TRDP network and coverage region, using UAC’s sales and marketing channels.

Additionally, MD has recently hired young and mid-career professionals from the private sector (Sales/Operations, Finance, Marketing/Business Development) and seconded a few of its mid-management team members to complete the initial Micro Drip team. MD has also hired an experienced agronomist with a multinational background to help develop technical expertise with respect to crops, plant protection and agri-sales.
As the business grows over the next 6-12 months, MD plans to hire additional highly qualified professionals, starting with a Chief Operating Officer, to expand and strengthen the scope of the company’s operations.
