Micro Drip is envisaged as a profit-oriented venture between TRDP and Acumen Fund.  The objective of MD is to support
poor farmers, irrespective of whether they can only irrigate lands during the rain season or if they have an alternative
water source which allows them to irrigate during off-seasons as well.  MD is supported by other partners who either have
experience in the agricultural sector or are interested in furthering rural development in Pakistan.  All of our partners are
highly interested in tapping the lower-income and small land-holding farmers, especially because it has a significant social
impact, but more importantly because it provides the opportunity of a higher, more consistent income for the farmer.

The primary stakeholders of Micro Drip are

  • Clientele
Change is a difficult thing to make happen.  Asking someone to leave an ancestral method of irrigation (flood irrigation)
and adopt one that requires a start-up cost as well can prove to be difficult.  Our clients will range from both, farmers
within and beyond the RSP organized household network.
  • Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP)
TRDP provides MD access to its expanding network of organized community members as a primary target market for MD
sales.  Additionally, TRDP will enable MD to leverage numerous of its programs for MD’s own capacity development and
more focused market identification and penetration.  For example, through TRDP’s Natural Resource Management department,
MD will have access to water-related data and expertise.

  • Acumen Fund
Acumen has a valuable presence in the global world of identifying and supporting scalable and sustainable businesses
that have a mandate to focus on the impoverished.  This alliance will be especially beneficial for international exposure
    of the opportunities in Pakistan.
  • Unilever Pakistan
Unilever has been one of the core supporters of Micro Drip.  Unilever, in direct partnership with Acumen Fund, has expressed
interest in further supporting this initiative by providing supply chain, sales and brand management expertise in the form of
workshops.  In addition, Unilever has agreed to help build the brand and expand the business by providing specialized Unilever
    employees through a resource-sharing program.

  • Universal Agro Chemicals (UAC)
UAC provides supply chain support and general business management expertise.  UAC supports MD through its sales teams
which have been involved in the agricultural business for numerous years.
  • International Development Enterprises-India (IDE-I)
Primarily, the drip irrigation supplier, IDE-I also provides the necessary training –technical support and knowledge sharing-
required in order to ensure the maximum effectiveness of the system on crop growth is reached.
  • Rural Support Programs Network (RSPN)
RSPN coordinates a network of 10 rural support programs (RSP’s) all over Pakistan, of which TRDP is a member.  Through
RSPN, Micro Drip has access to over [1.5] million households across the nation, which will act as market access points.
Through the RSP network, MD will gain access to a large portion of Pakistan’s Agri-dependent community.  They signify
part of our primary and secondary markets for growth and scale.

Micro Drip’s approach is unique from other companies and projects working with irrigation in Pakistan because of
its heavy focus on small land holding farmers.  Owing to the low cost of the system, TRDP’s household network and
access to their sister organization RSP’s extensive networks throughout Pakistan, MD is able to cost-effectively
reach farmers at the grassroots level who are generally considered inaccessible or unprofitable for most
commercial ventures
